becoming our mothers
[ a collection made in lockdown ]
“...identity is strongly bound to who we are to others-
mother, daughter, sister, lover, friend...”
Becoming our Mother’s is a collection exploring the importance of families,
focusing on the lives of the women who nursed me into womanhood.
From a young age our mothers, and female relatives, operate as the ultimate
didactic figure; from them we learn the codes of dressing and adopt their established
styles to formulate our own - we are made in their image.

Behind all of my projects is a childish want to dress up - to play.
And it is in this juvenile perception of femininity that my woman resides;
it is exaggerated, colourful and imperfect. My designs facilitate our
desire to be like someone else, to try on other identities and, in doing so,
explore and curate our own.

Inspired by women - mother, daughter, sister, lover and friend -
‘becoming our mothers’, establishes a frenzied sort of womanhood;
garments are made to look both traditionally ladylike and undeniably frantic. -
